
LWL Department of Social Affairs—Compensation Law
The LWL Office for Social Compensation Law provides benefits to victims of violent crimes, as well as to their family members and survivors, in accordance with the legal requirements of SGB XIV. Possible benefits range from acute therapy at trauma clinics to personal counseling by trained case managers, as well as medical, long-term care, and participation benefits. Under certain circumstances, financial benefits are also provided.
Who We Serve
Women, men, trans, non-binary, and intersex individuals of all ages who have experienced violence, as well as their family members.
We are a state-funded agency.
Our Focus
Our areas of focus include domestic violence, psychological violence, physical violence, sexual violence, stalking, violence in caregiving settings within the immediate social environment, and homophobic and transphobic violence.
How we provide counseling
We offer counseling in the form of in-person sessions, online counseling, telephone counseling, and anonymous counseling. We provide short-term assistance during acute crises but also offer long-term support. We provide informational materials for professionals and anyone interested in the topic, and offer continuing education and training for advocates.
Languages, Accessibility, and Costs
Our counseling is provided in German; sign language interpretation is available upon request.
Our facilities are wheelchair accessible.
Our services are free of charge.
